A central focus of the Division of Law and Psychiatry is the Fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry, accredited through ACGME. Scholarship and research are hallmarks of Law and Psychiatry at Yale. The division also provides educational programs for medical student clerkships, basic psychiatry residents, psychology interns and state forensic professionals. Under the tutelage of Ezra Griffith, MD and Madelon Baranoski, Ph.D., the Division educates and publishes on issues related to forensic theory and practice in forensic work. Experienced lawyers, state and federal judges, and international forensic experts are regular participants in examining forensic issues. Case studies are reviewed from historical, cultural, and practical perspectives to engender an understanding of the complexity of forensic psychiatry as grounded in medical science but practiced in a social, cultural, and legal context. Faculty participate in the seminar by directing modules focused on constructs relevant to practice and scholarship in forensic psychiatry.
